02.11Formations

2-Way Verticals

Complete coordinated vertical exercises with another flyer while maintaining visual contact, heading, relative level, and control.

Prerequisite: Super Positioning.

Desired outcome: Complete coordinated vertical exercises with another flyer while maintaining visual contact, heading, relative level, and control.

Reference material: IBA Flight Tutorials #8, #9, and #10.

Key points:

  • Establish the starting formation and visual references before changing levels.
  • Coordinate the timing of each vertical movement with the other flyer.
  • Use the whole body to control fall rate while preserving the planned horizontal position.
  • Stop in a neutral body position before beginning the next movement.

Coaching and safety: Begin with small changes in level and increase the range only after both flyers demonstrate coordinated stops. Brief each flyer's slot, altitude limits, recovery, and separation plan.
